The art of motivating

The art of motivating people begins with the discovery of how to influence the behavior of behavior of each one of them. In the past, it was believed that this force injected into people; today we know that each of us has our own motivations own motivations, generated by distinct factors.

Physical activity and sport have been the target of part of the literature produced in the area of Sport Psychology. However, some studies have sought to verify the motivation of high performance athletes who need to be motivated to achieve their goals, records, and victories.

Other researches are focused on the understanding of the process factors associated with adherence, persistence, and cessation of regular physical activity, seeking to identify what motivates "non-athletes" to practice regular physical activity and, thus, to stop being individuals sedentary.

The benefits achieved by the regular practice of physical activity are countless. According to the World Health Organization (2006), this practice reduces the risk of premature death, heart disease, stroke, colon and breast cancer, and type II diabetes. It acts in the prevention or reduction of hypertension, prevents weight gain (reducing the risk of obesity), helps in the prevention or reduction of osteoporosis, promotes well-being, reduces stress, anxiety, and depression.

Since not only high-performance athletes need to be motivated to achieve significant results, I, as a person who doesn't exercise much, need motivation to exercise more. Understanding that the body needs exercise is not enough to motivate me. Eating right is something that motivates me, for example. Because I see the results immediately, with my change of mood and even disposition. A good night's sleep also influences me a lot.

But how will I do to see results with physical activities? Well, I have to motivate myself as much as possible to make it happen.

My idea is to continue eating regularly, getting a good night's sleep. Because these two parts affect my mood and motivation, as was said in the last two posts. So to motivate myself to exercise first I will join a gym. But, not just any gym, I will do it in the same place that a friend does it. With this I will have two reasons to motivate myself.

First of all is the financial one, because I will pay to exercise. The second is that I have always complained of a lack of motivation to do individual activities, having company will make me feel more motivated to go regularly.

Another thing that can bring me good results are physical activities in groups, such as cooperative sports. In the past I did Jiu-Jitsu, which is an individual sport, but is impossible to do alone.

The fact that you are talking and in constant contact with other people makes me feel energized and want to repeat the activity the next day.

In the end, as much as I understand that physical exercise would already bring me a set of benefits and endorphin release, I couldn't keep up my efforts to create a habit of exercise without the motivational factor, which in my case is reflected in a social factor.

As the body changes take time to appear I need other ways to motivate me, in this aspect a friend exercising with me or even a team sport can be the solution for my motivation.
